Summer 2015 Must Have’s

Happy summer, everyone! As you may already know, I’m pretty low-key especially in the summer with my makeup. For me, natural and dewy is always better, with light coverage and pretty skin. For the eyes, I like to stick to something more fun and glittery but still on the natural side. I tend to focus more on skincare stuff, like masks, sunscreens, and face mists as well. However, this summer, I’ve been happy with a lighter and more compact routine and I wanted to share that with you today.

Clarins Sunscreen Multi-Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 50
Clarins have updated their SPF 50 and I really like it. This sunscreen is versatile protects from “UVA/UVB rays, pollution, and free radicals while improving skin’s texture and tone.” Not only is it super lightweight and fast-absorbing,it leaves my skin soft and protected. Shake the bottle well and squeeze and appropriate amount on the fingertips to apply. It smells light and wonderful; it doesn’t interfere with makeup application, and it also hydrates the skin well too. I wouldn’t wear this to the pool or water park, but for every day purposes, it’s nice. Its “exclusive anti-pollution complex” that “protects skin from the appearance of dark spots and future aging, and preserves skin’s youthfulness and radiance. The sheer, ultra-lightweight texture forms an invisible yet powerful film.”

NARS Aqua Gel Luminous Mask
This versatile mask is a “intensive hydrating mask for smoother, softer, more plump-looking skin.” While you can use it at night as a sleeping mask over your nighttime skincare routine, sometimes I use it during the day as a 5-10 minute treatment that I leave on while I’m brushing my teeth. Sometimes, depending on what my skin needs, I’ll apply a thin layer in place of my morning moisturizer to plump and re-hydrate my skin. You can read the review here if you’re curious.

Vinoperfect Radiance Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20

I haven’t officially dedicated a post for this tinted moisturizer yet, but it’s quickly climbed its way to the top of my foundation/base/BB/CC/tinted moisturizer list. I use the shade Light 01 and it’s a great product to use in the summer. As a “three-in-one tinted moisturizer that corrects, perfects, and provides light makeup coverage and SPF 20 protection,” this product’s “mineral pigments cover skin imperfections, leaving you with a smooth, even complexion so that over time, spots become less visible, and the skin is more beautiful.” It smells wonderful, feels lightweight, absorbs quickly, and looks natural on the skin. Coverage is minimal but I like the glowiness it provides.

NYX Cosmetics Cream Blush
I’ve reviewed another cream blush by NYX here if you’re interested, but it’s a great budget-friendly cream blush to use. The shade I’m currently loving is “Glow,” which provides just that…natural glowy pink shade on the cheeks. It’s buildable and not sticky at all, which makes it super easy to use. In addition, the “velvety smooth cream blush provides radiant, long-lasting color and a fresh, dewy glow [and the] formula is infused with minerals that hydrate and condition the skin.”

MAC 130 Short Duo Fibre Brush
This brush is an oldie but a goodie. Not only is it great for powder products, but creams and liquids work better with this brush as well. I use this for cream blushes (like the NYX one) and even to apply my base makeup such as foundation/tinted moisturizers/BB/CC creams. Additionally, it’s great for concealer if you need to cover bigger areas on your face. I’ve read that some people use this brush to contour, so clearly, it’s a brush that you can use for a variety of stuff. It’s small and compact but can reach all the contours and nooks of your face; at the same time, the duo-fibre allows for a seamless application.

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint
The shade “Lovely” is a “watermelon pink” that’s absolutely perfect for the summer months. It’s a warm pink shade that isn’t too bright and a step up from being considered natural. It’s glossy and easy to apply because of the pencil-design, so it’s ideal to carry this around in your purse. Described to be a “moisturizing lip stain,” I love that this does both — moisturizes and stains the lips in a reasonable way. The finish is shiny and glossy and the color is so pretty. It goes with everything and you can wear it all year as well.

What are some of your summer must have’s/favorites?

NARS Aqua Gel Luminous Mask

As you probably know by now, masks are major staples in my skincare arsenal. While there’s many masks to choose from, I prefer overnight/”sleeping masks” for most occasions. Additionally, for pamper sessions or when my skin really needs some help, the traditional clay masks — or the ones you wash off — are still a winner in my book. I still manage to squeeze in sheet masks every other night or so, but lately, overnight masks are so much easier to deal with. My newest is the NARS Aqua Gel Luminous Mask, and I’m very happy with its multitasking concept. And, by that, I mean that I use this mask in a variety of ways.

The gel-like quality is convenient — it’s easy to apply, feels cooling and soothing on the skin, and it spreads easily without catching in different parts of the face. It’s very easy to slap it on and move on!

The NARS Aqua Gel Luminous Mask is an “intensive hydrating mask for smoother, softer, more plump-looking skin.” For skin that is dehydrated, dry, tired, and dull, this is the perfect way to recharge your skin. NARS claims that “this advanced treatment provides a surge of hydration anytime—day or overnight, leaving skin ultrasoft, vibrant, and more youthful-looking.” Additionally, the mask is “infused with NARS exclusive Light Reflecting Complex™, Japonicus root extract, Wild Pansy extract, Beech Bud extract, and Sophora root extract,” which are all skin-loving ingredients that aid with intense hydration and strengthening the skin’s barrier function to lock in essential moisture.

Most importantly, the Aqua Gel Luminous Mask “saturates the skin with moisture. Skin feels comfortable, calm, and soothed. The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles begin to fade from view. Lightweight and velvety to the touch, this treatment mask helps skin achieve a new level of luminosity and preparation for smooth makeup application and longer-lasting foundation.”

As mentioned previously, I use this mask in a variety of ways. First, I use it as is — a mask that can be left on overnight. This means after makeup removal, thorough cleansing, and prepping the skin with toner, serum, and my night cream, I apply this mask as my final step on top of my night cream. Usually, I leave about 10-15 minutes of absorbing time for my regular night time products, and then I apply the Aqua Gel Luminous Mask. At first, the mask is filmy and almost sticky. But when you give it some time to absorb, it adheres to the skin well and locks in all the products you’ve applied prior. I feel that this traps all the moisture and nutrients during the night, enabling my skin to recover, recharge, and rehydrate throughout the night.

Second, I use this as a quickie wash-off mask. Sometimes in the morning, my skin is looking tired and dull. So I’ll wash my face with Cetaphil, apply the mask, and then brush my teeth. During that time the mask is working quickly to re-vamp my skin. After brushing my teeth, I wash off the mask and proceed onto my morning skincare routine and then makeup. I’ve found that this method can truly make a difference in how my skin looks before makeup applications on days when my skin really needs it.

Lastly, sometimes I swap out my regular daytime moisturizer for this. I don’t do this often since I don’t think it’s as effective as when I apply this at night. However, when my skin is feeling dry, I apply this instead of moisturizer to give my skin a quick boost. Because it feels tacky at first, I have to have adequate time for it to absorb, then apply my sunscreen, then my makeup. It can be time-consuming so I tend to not do it often. I found myself doing this while traveling, however.
