Nail Talk: Butter London Nail Foundation & Illamasqua Nail Varnish – “Nomad”

My current favorite base coat is the Butter London Nail Foundation. Much like foundation for your face, this base coat is a beigey-skin color that neutralizes any imperfections your nails may have. Unlike the traditional clear base coats, by starting off with a your-skin-color, the nail varnish you apply afterwards appears truer and bolder.

I’ve also noticed that it helps even the goopiness in some nail polish formuals. For example, Essie polishes are annoying to use because it streaks and thins out when applying; for me, it’s impossible to get a smooth and even application. There’s something about Butter London’s Nail Foundation – I don’t know what it is, but it’s a foundation – for your nails. Clever.

Today’s choice of color is Illamasqua‘s nail varnish in “Nomad.” The shade on the left is “Milf,” which I’ll be playing with next.

“Nomad” is a rich, bright kelly-green shade that is kind of minty as well; the application was smooth, thick but not difficult to work with, and the pigmentation is impressive. It dries well before the top coat application and the opacity of the color is a bonus on top of the vibrant and glossy looking finish. The “formula is hard wearing and chip resistant and contains individual finishes from matte to high gloss,” according to Sephora’s website.

I really like Illamasqua’s polishes and am looking forward to indulging in more fun summer colors. What are some of your new favorite shades? What are your thoughts on the nail foundation?

Haul: Makeup Retail Therapy

Every day is a “haul-iday” in makeup land. What do you guys think? :)

It’s a modest haul and nothing extravagant. But my excuse to myself was: I need to pick up things I need (and while I’m out and about, I’ll just have a look around). In my defense, I really did need more of my trusty Neutrogena eye makeup remover and I really did need my Cetaphil soap. Recently, I randomly switched over from their liquid cleanser to the bar soap one and I’m totally loving Cetaphil in a whole ‘nother way.

My old eyelash curler was the Shu Uemura one – which I’ve been dedicated to for the past 10 years. It’s held up well because I just replaced the rubber pads and I was too stingy to pay the $20 for a stupid eyelash curler, haha. And FINALLY, it was time to part with it because it was just old and I’m ashamed to admit that I hadn’t replaced it this whole time. So after going back and forth with what I wanted to do, I gave into purchasing and new eyelash curler for yet another $20. But I do have to say that I like that it’s a dark gray (but shiny) color; and it’s just nice to have a new tool.

My favorite purchase is the NARS tinted moisturizer. I’ve been drooling over pictures of this product online for months, and even though that sounds totally creepy, I’ve been waiting for it be available in stores. When I was innocently “picking things up that I ‘needed,'” I saw the Sephora sales associate putting them out on display. The testers weren’t even put out yet, so I creeped around the corner pretending to look at other things. When she asked if I needed help with anything, I asked to play with the testers, lol. I know that sounds so obsessive, but she was nice enough to let me color-swatch and I was instantly sold. :)

And, the best part of today is FREE stuff. Actually, it wasn’t totally free since it takes some dollars spent to rack up some major reward points.

I scored the Tarte set for my 500-points Beauty Insider reward. I’ve been saving my points because nothing had appealed to me for months. But I’m glad I saved because I love everything in this set!

This was my free gift at Ulta for the quarterly reward thing. This retails for $20 so it’s not too shabby. I haven’t tried this brand and normally I don’t gofor leave-intreatments. But I’m eager to try it since my hair has been getting super long, so I’ll report back soon.

Here is everything unpackaged and looking pretty. Oh yea, I got a nail polish too. It’s taken me awhile to purchase Butter London polishes because of the price. But I bought the color “Trout Pout” from the Spring line because YouTube made me do it. I’m going to take this baby with me to the nail salon when I go in for a pedicure – woohoo!

Review on the tinted moisturizer will be coming up soon. I’m going to be trying it out for the next few weeks; however, let me just forewarn you that I have ridiculously high expectations for base makeup and I normally don’t even stick with wearing tinted moisturizers unless they totally wow me. I will be comparing this to the famoulsy popular Laura Mercier one. We shall see.

What did you guys buy this weekend?
