Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour

If you were unhappy with MAC’s shadesticks because they were dry, hard to apply and blend, and dried out insanely quick – I’ve got the solution to those problems: Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colours. I consider them to be “grown up” shadesticks, because they do what they’re designed to do – it’s quick and easy, no fuss. And, compared to the MAC shadesticks, these are just way better.

According to, the Caviar Stick Eye Colors were “inspired by Laura Mercier’s cult classic Caviar Eyeliner,” and are designed “to enhance the smoky-eye look.” The “creamy formula provides endless options for a flawless smoky eye, [and] each convenient stick is long-wearing, transfer and crease-resistant.” It claims to “glide onto lids and blend easily with a rich color payoff.”

The claims are true – it’s convenient to use because it’s in a stick form. You hold it like a pencil and “draw” the color onto your lids. All the colors in the range are buttery smooth and soft, apply opaque and pigmented, and last all day without smudging, creasing, and wearing off. The best part about these sticks is that they blend like a dream because the creamy texture is so easy to work with.

I like these sticks for various smokey eyes, just like it was designed to do. But if you’re not going for a dramatic look, just sheer out the color by blending. I find that it also works well alone – kind of like a jumbo eyeliner. Be warned however – once applied to the lids, you have to work quickly to blend. Once the product dries it’s not going to budge – which, in theory, seems great for all-day wear. However, when you’re trying to achieve a particular look, it’s difficult to move the color around once it begins to dry.

My advice is to swipe on the color, use your finger to do some generl blending (since the warmth of your finger will help the product move), and then use a blending brush to get the rest of the job done.

Another suggestion is to use a creme eye color brush to apply the color. The densely packed synthetic bristles distribute the color evenly and blend at the same time which cuts down your eye makeup time in half. The Laura Mercier creme eye color brush is great because it works so well with the caviar stick formula.

When I use this brush, I directly dab the brush onto the tip of the caviar stick to transfer some color, then I apply it directly onto the lids. This is easier for me since I don’t apply too much onto my eyelids and have to spend time wiping most of it off.

Retails for $24.00 each.
