As a major fan of Japanese mascaras, I bought the Shiseido Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Edge Meister Mascara on a whim while browsing on eBay. Much like the Lash Expander Frame Plus, the brush and the concept are nearly the same. After a few months of trying various Japanese mascaras reviewed here, here, here, and here — I’m back home — to my beloved Shiseido Majolica Majorca mascara.
Released in the Spring 2013 line, this mascara is its newest addition and I’m totally loving it. I have to warn you though — the mascara has a tendency to clump and clump BAD if you’re not careful. Also, I think there’s more fibers in this mascara than any other mascara I’ve used before. If any of it gets remotely close to your eye, it will sting and hurt instantly. This makes mascara application a little inconvenient — especially if you haven’t used MJ mascaras before. If you have, chances are, you already know this and know how to apply with caution with minimal damage!
As noted in all of my Japanese mascara posts, this mascara is also long-wearing and won’t budge, smudge, or run. Once it’s on, it’s on. Curl-holding capabilities are superb and the double-sided “comb” helps you apply the product evenly onto your lashes; and then, add volume (with some minor clumping). Removal is difficult, so be sure to loosen up the waxy product with something oily like cleansing oil before using your regular face wash at the end of the night.
It’s perfect for summer — through the heat and sweat. I always wear MJ mascaras to the pool, beach, or lake because NOTHING will make this mascara come off and you don’t have to worry about your curl falling halfway through a pool outing.
Up close, you’re able to see the fibers. The good thing is that it adds natural length to my already stubby and short Asian lashes. It gives oomph without being obnoxious, though that can be achieved if you just keep re-applying. Compared to Lash Expander Frame Plus, I think it’s more clumpier so you have to be careful. But I also noticed that the finish is extremely glossy. Your lashes look great and there’s something really pretty about the glossy finish. This is the general first application, before the mascara is built up. Depending on my mood, sometimes I like the intentional clumpy look because I feel that it can add volume. As you can see, the Shiseido Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Edge Meister Mascara can look natural and can be built up to look more dramatic. What do you think about the fuller brow?? :)
