REVIEW: Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation

To fulfill a reader’s request, I’ve decided to post my own review of the newest Chanel foundation: Perfection Lumiere. Much like all the Chanel foundations (besides Vitalumiere Aqua), Perfection Lumiere comes in a sleek, frosted, glass bottle; included is a black cap with the Chanel emblem on top, and a sturdy pump that is easy to control. Its label says that it is a “long-wear flawless fluid makeup” with SPF 10 (instead of SPF 15 featured in Chanel’s Pro Lumiere foundation).

Side note: Pro Lumiere foundation has been phasing out at various Chanel counters. I’ve been told by a Chanel representative that Perfection Lumiere, will in fact, take the place of Pro Lumiere in the very near future.

According to Chanel’s website, it indicates that this formula is “effortless to apply with seamless blendability for a naturally flawless effect.” They claim that this “breakthrough foundation” is ideal for every day for all-day wear. Also, the most important aspect of this new launch is that this collection of foundations features 20 shades – 10 in the “beige” range and 10 in the “beige rose” range. For those with yellow/golden undertones, the “beige” range will be more suitable; as for those with pink/reddish undertones, the “beige rose” range will be more suitable.

My thoughts: The claims that Chanel makes are actually met well, and the product surprisingly exceeded my expectations. In the past, I was disappointed with Chanel’s color range, as it was very limiting to those with paler skin tones and those with darker skin tones. It was impressive to see them come out with more than 10 shades this time around. It does provide a flawless and natural application, since its texture is light and pillowy. Though the formula is quite creamy, it feels gel-like at the same time allowing it to blend effortlessly into the skin. The coverage is medium to full, although it is quite buildable without getting cakey. However, for those who wish for lighter coverage, I recommend using a lighter hand with the application.

My only gripe is that it dries quicker than other Chanel foundations, so it’s best to work quickly in sections. Don’t put blobs of it all over your face and take your time blending out each cheek, nose, chin, and forehead. Work separately – otherwise the foundation will dry in a blob-like shape, which is obviously unflattering. No skin irritations, no oiliness, no overly matte-ness, and no oxidation either. I would say that this foundation wears beautifully for anywhere between 8-12 hours, depending on how much you’ve been sweating/out in the heat/out and about. For me, personally, I powder my t-zone if it’s going to be a long day; but, most days, I can skip the powder because I prefer the dewy look.

Pictured above is the shade B10, which is the lightest shade available in the “beige” range. I do not use MAC foundations, but for reference, I’m an NC15. In Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua, I’m a B10 as well, which is also the lightest “beige” range shade. Unfortunately, I don’t think that Vitalumiere Aqua’s shades and Perfection Lumiere’s shades correspond. It’s best to get matched at the counter – just in case.

I hope this has helped. Because this foundation has just launched, many counters don’t even carry it yet. I went to Nordstrom for my purchase, but call around and see if you’re interested.

Chanel’s Perfection Lumiere Foundation retails for $55.00 for 1 fluid ounce.

A Day of Chanel

Because I was feeling rather fancy this morning, I decided to make it a “Day of Chanel” as I was getting ready. Though normally, I don’t plan on being ‘brand-loyal’ in the mornings, I enjoyed not mixing and matching today. I can confidently say that Chanel is my favorite luxury brand of cosmetics, but I do own other brands as well (and I use different items/products on a daily basis). However, I find that Chanel products are reliable – in a “no fuss” kind of way – and, I definitely believe that if I invest in certain products, I’ll receive good results.

With that said, here’s the product list:
1. CHANEL Blush in “Espiegle” #65
2. CHANEL Natural Finish Loose Powder – Poudre Universelle Libre in #20 “Clair”
3. CHANEL UV Essentiel Multi-Protection Daily UV Care SPF 50
4. CHANEL Vitalumiere Radiance Fluid Makeup SPF 15 in “Ivoire” #7
5. CHANEL Hydramax + Active Lip Care
6. CHANEL Ultra Correction Line Repair Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream (SAMPLE)

Yup, all because I was feeling fanciful today. As cheesy as it sounds – it was a great way to start off my morning.
